History of the Syrian flag

The flag of Syria is a horizontal tricolor, which means that the flag is made up of three horizontal bands of three different colors. All three bands of the flag are the same width. The top band is red, the middle band of the flag is white, and the bottom band is black in color. In the middle and white band, two five-point stars are placed in green. The colors red, white, black, and green are pan-Arab colors. These colors are therefore widely used in the flags of other Arab countries, especially the design of the flag of Iraq is very similar to the flag of Syria.

The current flag of Syria has been used once before, this was in the period from 1958 to 1961. During this period it was the flag of the United Arab Republic, this republic was a federation of Syria and Egypt. The flag was adopted again in 1980 and remains the national flag of Syria to this day. In addition to the current flag, Syria has known several flags. In the period from 1932 to 1958, a green-white-black tricolor was flown with three red five-pointed stars in the white band. Then the current flag was used for three years, after which a small adjustment was made, namely the addition of a green star to the flag. In 1972, the flag was changed again to the flag of the Federation of Arab Republics in an attempt to unite Libya, Syria and Egypt into one state. Under this republic, a horizontal tricolor was again flown with the colors red, white and black. This time with a golden eagle in the center of the flag, this flag was very similar to the current flag of Egypt. This republic fell apart and Syria has had its current flag since 1980.

Syrian flag reigns

A Syrian flag as a tribute to Syria should not be hung outside at night. The Syrian flag is therefore raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset. Do you want to hang several world flags next to each other? Use country flags of the same size or hang them at the same height. The most important national flag - in Norway the Norwegian flag - is always placed in the foreground. You can determine the ranking by using the first letter of the French names of the countries involved.
