 The history of the UN flag
 The flag of the United Nations is a sky blue flag that bears in white an equidistant azimuthal projection of the world centered on the North Pole. Around that world map are two olive branches symbolizing peace. An equidistant azimuthal projection is a way of depicting a sphere, the Earth, in a circle, and keeping the distance from the center, in this case the North Pole, the same. The continents depicted represent all the people on Earth. When the United Nations was founded in 1945, a slightly different flag was first used, this flag, which was the flag of the UN until the current flag was introduced on December 7, 1946, had America as its center instead of the North Pole. In 1946, it was decided that the North Pole and with it the 0 meridian and the international date line would be taken as the center of the UN flag, so that no country would be favored in the design of the flag.
